While gearing up for a long weekend away that includes a five plus hour drive to the northwest part of the state, it's hard not to take solace in a road song. And Norman Blake's "Lord Won't You Help Me" does the job perfectly.
Though my weekend will be gill-filled with friends, it is fall, so there is some inherent degree of solitude with anything that happens. Everything feels as cold and lost as the phrase Mr. Blake twangs in his particularly delayed way: Chilled to the bone...
This record is taken from his 1974 Flying Fish lp, The Fields of November.
